Your taxes buy your City Council members cars!
Here is your annual reminder that most City Councilmembers don’t ride SEPTA a lot, and instead drive around everywhere on the taxpayer’s dime.
Below is the spreadsheet the City provided me in response to a RTKL request for all documents reflecting the cost of these cars: how much the vehicle cost, how much fuel they use, and maintenance costs. The expenses are from 1/1/25 to present.
Who’s driving the most?
Most fuel: Curtis Jones (2,048 gallons)
Least fuel: Nicolas O’Rourke (102 gallons)
Most expensive car: Council President Johnson ($72,720.00 car, plus $19,591.39 in repairs!)
All the members who burned more than 1000 gallons:
Jamie Gauthier (1,032 gallons)
Katherine Gilmore (1,130 gallons)
Jimmy Harrity (1,118 gallons)
Kenyatta Johnson (1,125 gallons)
Curtis Jones (2,048 gallons)
Anthony Phillips (1,015 gallons)
Isiah Thomas (1,059 gallons)
